Description

Most trainers already realize that teaching a dog any basic or advanced skill is achieved through various dog training techniques and abilities. To increase success, however, truly great trainers are able to address a wide variety of outside factors that have an impact on the success of any training plan. Such factors are relevant, whether you are working with a private client, a group session, or your own dog. This course will focus on what may just be the most important of factors that impact success rates: those that occur BEFORE training ever begins. Oftentimes, when trainers begin working on a new skill, they go right into the training. Unfortunately, they are skipping right over very relevant information that will significantly impact the chances and speed of success. Instructor, Amber Burckhalter, CNWI, CDBC brings over 20 years of experience and provides a glance into her personal formal for success: a 4 step comprehensive and integrated approach that will help trainers identify and understand the various factors that impact the lives of owners/clients/rescue/shelter and their canine companions, and ultimately their success. Understanding what factors are influencing the current successes or failures of the canine team - BEFORE training ever begins - will drastically increase the success rates of professional trainers and novice trainers alike. Through OMIT, students will learn to implement the skills of Observation, Management, Intervention, and Training into daily classes and private lessons. Because this course is an APDT Hybrid course, four weeks of education take place online, and an additional session occurs in person, on Saturday 10/18 of the 2014 APDT Conference. To receive credit for the certificate, Full students must register for and complete both the 1) online portion of this course AND 2) hands-on workshop at Conference. Auditing students are not required to do so. View recorded lectures, participate in online discussion, & submit hom
