Description

A 2-Hour Hands-On Workshop Join us for Muzzle Smart, a comprehensive and empowering 2-hour workshop designed to help dog owners, fosters, and training professionals understand the why, when, and how of muzzle use. Whether your dog needs a muzzle for vet visits, public outings, or part of a behavior modification plan—or you simply want to be prepared—this workshop will give you the tools and confidence you need. This workshop will be hosted by Jessica Fritschi LVT, CDBC, CPDT-KA, CNWI and assisted by Marissa Murray LVT, CPDT-KA. Together, Jessica and Marissa have over 28 years working as Licensed Veterinary Technicians, bringing cooperative care and muzzle training into their private practice, as well as muzzle training for a myriad of other behavior management solutions. What We'll Cover: ✅ Types of muzzles (basket, emergency, custom-fit, etc.) and what each is best suited for ✅ Proper sizing and fitting for comfort and safety ✅ Step-by-step muzzle conditioning using positive reinforcement ✅ Why muzzle training benefits all dogs—not just those with aggression concerns ✅ The role of muzzles in veterinary visits, grooming, emergencies, reactivity plans, and more ✅ Addressing common myths and public stigma ✅ How to integrate muzzle use into a thoughtful training or behavior modification plan ✅ What to avoid: unsafe styles, poor fits, and outdated training methods ✅ Advocating for your dog in public and reducing social judgment ✅ Troubleshooting common issues (pawing, resistance, overexcitement) What to Expect: This workshop will toggle between lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on work with participating dogs. Working teams will have time to practice new skills while observing demos and listening to instruction during rest periods. Eligible participants should not display severe aggression or reactivity toward other dogs or people, as this is a group event / workshop. Working teams will generally work one at a time or have a decent amount of space between them with the ability to add visual barriers. There will be down time where working dogs are crated in the facility or out of your car during lecture and other demo portions. 🐾 Working Spot: $80 (limited availability; includes hands-on practice with your dog) 🐾 Auditor Spot: $60 (observe and learn without a working dog) 🐾 Veterinary & Shelter Professional Auditor Discount: $50 (Available to veterinary staff, shelter employees, and rescue volunteers—please mention your affiliation when registering.) Bring your own muzzle if you have one, and / or explore a variety of options provided at the workshop. This is a judgment-free, fear-free space—perfect for dogs of all ages and backgrounds, whether they’re brand new to muzzle training, already have a foundation, or you need to troubleshoot or re-condition.
