Description
Behavior problems in dogs are a common concern post-adoption and are still a top reason for adopters to return their dog to the shelter. Having a process in place to effectively triage adopter concerns and direct them to appropriate assistance may help preserve the adoption. Even if your shelter does not offer public behavior services you can still be a source of information and referral to appropriate training and behavior professionals. For dogs who do end up being returned for behavioral reasons, gathering in-home information is essential for adaptability assessment, as well as matchmaking efforts for the next adopter. This session will provide tips for setting up a triage system and what to do with the information gathered via adopter communication.
