Description
Providing veterinary care can be scary for the patient and frustrating for the humans involved, even in a home setting. These challenges are magnified in the shelter, where the patients are already facing the stress of novel people and environments. In this session we’ll discuss how considering behavioral factors during the initial medical evaluation and throughout ongoing care may improve both treatment success and overall outcome. We’ll discuss opportunities for compromise, areas where risk-taking may be worthwhile to preserve an animal’s holistic wellbeing, and factors that may warrant veering away from the treatment path that would be recommended in a home.
