Description

Dogs often have “big feelings” about one or many stimuli in their regular lives, from separation and isolation to fireworks or the mail carrier. Common management techniques, like minimizing your dog's time alone, covering their crates, and sound masking, are often helpful in the moment but alleviate symptoms without addressing causes or teaching skills that can make dogs' and their people’s lives much better over the long haul. The sustainable, smart solution is to create places where dogs feel at ease and give them the agency and skill to move to those environments independently. Then, we can teach dogs behaviors that help them calm themselves. These principles are put into action in the “Safe Spaces” class. In this five-week, four-unit LIVE! Class, Ellen will coach you through creating, conditioning, and maintaining safe spaces for your or your clients’ dogs. These techniques apply whether your dog is merely suspicious of or boisterously reactive to stimuli, and can also be applied to non-dog species. However, this class is not designed for dogs with resource-guarding issues.
