Description

Stress in shelter animals is a constant challenge. When the entire animal care team is educated in how to use low-stress handling skills and enrichment as integral parts of standard animal care, stress reduction needs are continually met and animals become easier to handle. Our behavior program does not train animals but trains the humans who care for them to increase welfare across the board, including stress reduction. After several years with the program in place, we are beginning to study it to document effectiveness. Anecdotal evidence shows it is working; visitors frequently comment about how quiet our dogs are.
