Respect and R+ Training: A Guide to Helping Clients and the Community Understand their Dog: In this workshop trainers and animal welfare employees will learn useful tips and tricks on how to expand the communities understanding, respect and excitement about positive reinforcement training. Attendees will learn how to provide information and education about R+ training, fallout from aversive training methods, and provide resources to clients and the community who are eager to learn more about their bond with their dog and need access to training help. This is focused on teaching people to train their dog in a more progressive way, using positive language and different coaching methods to help in private lessons, group classes, adoption counseling and public canine behavior advice. AND How to Hold Free Public Dog Training Classes: Dog training classes can be expensive, time-intensive, and prohibitive to those in the community who really need them. Leading free group training classes for your community can be easier than you might think. In this session, we will take a look at one specific example of how to go from idea to execution. AND Behavioral Support Before Surrender and After Adoption: Behavior problems are common in both dogs and cats. Many pet owners don't recognize the severity of behavior or know that help is available. Creating a behavior centered program that provides resources and supports pet owners is needed to keep animals out of the shelters but also to provide support post adoption.
