Description

Choice-Based Communication™ is a system in which an animal learns to use specific behaviors to communicate preferential information to handlers, that allows us to proactively collaborate to our mutual benefit. CBC serves as a continuous assessment tool, allowing us to more accurately identify conflict, and proactively remove as much as possible from experiences, even those in which the outcome is inevitable. It is based on the premise that an increase in agency increases distress tolerance and alters the aversive nature of a context or stimulus. This course provides an introductory overview of the foundational building blocks of Choice-Based Communication, the theory behind verbal operants, and clarifying contingencies, and some examples of application.
