Description

A Just, Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Community of Dog Professionals is Possible Do you want to engage in anti-oppressive practices that promote social justice, well-being, and healing for everyone but are unsure where to start? This webinar can help. Social psychologist Katherina Alvarez, PhD will talk about how oppressive systems work, how we may support them consciously or unconsciously, and what we can do to make society more fair, humane, and just. Katherina will share lived experiences of positive dog trainers from her research as well as insights from the researchers, scholars, writers, and activists who are leading the way to social justice. In this webinar, we will learn why these disparities still exist and what we can do to dismantle them. This kind of (un)learning may challenge and confront many of our beliefs, knowledge, and perspectives, which can lead to strong emotions and discomfort. In addition, discussions around these topics often lead to conflicts and divisiveness. That is why Katherina will support us in this personally and intellectually challenging learning process in a shame-free, brave, and compassionate space, bringing light to the importance of justice and equity, as well as healing, connection, purpose, and integration for all of us. Change is possible, as we will learn here, and it starts with us!
