Description

The experience of stress affects a wide array of physiological and behavioral processes. Owners and professionals alike often report that an animal appears appears ‘stressed’ or ‘anxious’, but how do these states originate in the body? How are they perpetuated? In order to understand the behavioral implications of stress, it is important to understand the neurobiology of the stress-response system. This discussion provides an overview of the organs, hormones, and neurophysiological pathways responsible for stress response as a framework for discussion of its role in behavior across species.
