Description

Puppy testing has been a major source of debate within the scientific community as puppies are flexible and have lots of room to grow, not only physically but mentally and emotionally. It is generally excepted amongst professionals that final adult behaviours are shaped by a combination of genetic nature, nurturing received throughout their development and learned experiences. Puppy assessments offer us greater insight to the instinctual responses of a puppy, providing accurate impressions of general fearfulness, activity levels, excitability, thresholds and stimuli sensitivity. Behaviour 106 – Puppy Assessments is designed to guide Breeders, Trainers, Behaviour Consultants, Veterinary staff, Animal Care Professionals and prospective owners through the process of implementing a puppy temperament test based on methods recommended by the renowned author of Applied Dog Behaviour and Training, Steven R. Lindsay. These methods are used to help identify where an individual puppy scores in areas such as; competitiveness, sociability, emotional reactivity, trainability and ability to adjust to new environments. This full day course walks participants through the process of environment set up, recommended tools and how to implement a puppy profiling test from start to finish. Participants gain curtail information on how to accurately interpret tests results to better identify ideal home environments and areas in which the puppy requires more assistance to guide them towards becoming well-rounded and balanced adults.
