Description

How Do You Build Trust and Set Clear Expectations with an Adopted Dog? First impressions matter, and how you transition a dog from shelter life to your home can mean the difference between a dog who bounces right back to the shelter or feels safe enough build that once-in-a-lifetime bond with your family. Susan McKeon, Community Clinical Animal Behavior Manger with the UK’s largest rehoming charity The Dog’s Trust, walks us through successfully bringing your shelter dog home. From the first days, to the first few weeks, to the first few months, Susan will use all of her experience providing behavior consultations for rescue dogs to help us understand the challenges that newly re-homed shelter dogs face and how we can support them through the transition from rescue dog to forever dog.
