Description
What does it take to be a great trainer? What’s the best way to practice and improve your own skills or the skills of your human clients? How can you try out new ideas without frustrating your animal learners? If you've ever asked yourself these questions, then you won't want to miss this hands-on workshop with Mary Hunter. The Portable Operant Research and Teaching Lab (PORTL) is a tabletop shaping game. During this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of PORTL. Then, we will use PORTL to explore behavior principles and techniques that will help you create optimal learning situations when working with both animals and people. In addition, Mary will use video examples, short lectures, and discussions to help you relate the hands-on PORTL activities back to the teaching you do with your dogs and with your human clients. The workshop will give you new ideas about shaping behavior, strategic reinforcement delivery, mechanical skills, timing, and capturing and transferring actions.
