A great majority of people resort to punishment when training their dogs, raising their children, and in their daily interactions with people. While punishment may appear to work, there are far too many fallouts that don't justify its use. This webinar explains why and how we often opt for punishment as a first option,it addresses the main fallouts of punishment (counter-control, aggression, anxiety, learned helplessness), and what we can do to re-program ourselves to make more dog-friendly and people-friendly choices. Webinar Objectives Learn how a coercive society predisposes us to punish. Become aware of how we tend to react to situations instead of acting on them. Understand what counter-control and learned helplessness are and how to recognize them. Understand anxiety as a consequence of badly timed punishment. Learn that dogs with an active defense mechanism may react with aggression to punishment and dogs with a passive defense mechanism may develop learned helplessness. Acquire some basic skills on the application of positive reinforcement to both dog training and daily interactions with people.
