Description

We took an opportunity to learn more about training and behavior and combined it with hands-on skills with dogs and other animals and connected it with our community outreach programs. This means part of your hands-on skills will be working directly with our underserved communities as well as with our day-to-day training and behavior clients. We accept students from all backgrounds who want to learn and develop humane, ethical, evidence-based skills & practices. You will be given access to educational materials and assessed regularly on comprehension and application of that material in real-world scenarios. When we started we had no one mentoring us and we had no support. Our goal is to promote the learning and growth of those in programs during their mentorship and beyond. Our goal is to promote credentialing with the CCPDT, IAABC, and the Pet Professional Credentialing Board. We truly do not have enough evidence-based professionals in the field. Our program focuses on both ends of the leash. Skills vary depending on the program but may include a combination of: Instruction Skills group and individual Equipment Applied Behavior Analysis Learning Theory Ethology, Body Language, Observational Skills Health, Development, Anatomy, and Physiology Consulting Skills and best Practices Helping owners process the strong emotions during behavior change processes Collaborating with colleagues Self-assessment when determining if we have the education and skills to take on a case Dog bite prevention education Family blending Mentees will start with observing classes while studying and working individually with animals. Then transition to leading lessons and group classes. With a heavy focus on building skills and developing confidence and comfort working with animals using evidence-based training and behavioral intervention. Dog training mentorship is 50 hours
