Free Shaping: Hone your skills as a trainer, while having fun with your dog! Free shaping is a crucial skill for positive reinforcement trainers to understand. In the old days, if a dog didn't perform the behavior, we manipulated him into position; then came luring, which is kinder but not necessarily more effective; now the cutting edge skill is free shaping. Free shaping will give you the ability to train any behavior the animal is capable of without physical manipulation. For those wanting to test for the CPDT-KSA designation, the ability to free shape is a requirement. It's almost certain you won't pass the skills exam without the ability to free shape. In this course, you will learn the basic principles of shaping, as well as discussion of the skills that allow you to actually do it. This course is a bit different from the normal webinar, as there is homework and follow up after the initial class. You must be able to video yourself training your dog, and be able to e-mail or Dropbox that video to Raising Canine for feedback and discussion. Plan on spending, at minimum, one hour each week on homework assignments. Once submitted, your video will belong to Raising Canine, LLC and may be used in other educational courses developed by Raising Canine, LLC. You must submit video to qualify for CEUs.
