Description

Traditionally, models of animal welfare have focused on the prevention of harm. Now that we are used to thinking of dogs and other animals as sentient, it is recognized that good animal welfare also includes positive experiences. So what does this mean for dog trainers and animal behaviorists? This presentation will provide an overview of models of animal welfare and what science tells us about what dogs need and how providing it can make them happier and less likely to have behavior problems.
