Description

NOTE: All registered students will be investing an average of 12-15 hours for the duration of the course. "Gold" level students will have an additional 1-2 hours of commitment through the creation of videos. Learn the art and science of Desensitization and Counter-conditioning. Acquire skills that will allow you to help your dog develop a diminished or a more positive emotional response to things he’s not too keen about. This course is structured as a “Trainer’s Choice”. Gold level students will each choose up to three stimuli they’ll use to practice and sharpen their DS&CC skills: Anything from the monster vacuum cleaner to nail trimming to the fear of being picked up. This course is about learning the process and practicing the mechanics so that you can tackle the bigger problems with knowledge and experience. It will allow you to achieve success with a few smaller issues in order to increase the chances of succeeding with the bigger issues. Ideally, students will choose a few stimuli over which they have complete control, i.e. the stimulus is not present when they’re not working with it. GOLD LEVEL participants will receive personal guidance and coaching as they work towards helping their dog attain a positive emotional response to stimuli he previously feared or found aversive. Keep in mind that each case is different and that the rate of progress varies greatly from dog to dog. Gold level students will have gained the knowledge necessary to continue the work on their own. Given the nature of the content of this course, there will be a maximum of 10 Gold spots available per session. SILVER LEVEL participants will get to submit as many general questions as they like, as well as 2 questions with 2 videos pertaining to their own dog for the duration of the course. BRONZE LEVEL participants will be silent auditors only. An ideal option for owners who feel confident they can follow along and apply the exercises on their own, or who want to learn “just in case” they need these skills in the future. Also ideal for trainers who are preparing to offer this service to clients, or who already utilize this process with clients successfully, and would like the opportunity to see some other individual cases and scenarios in progress. All participants will have access to all forums and will be able to follow each individual case.
