Description

Training with families is growing niche which is much needed within the dog training community, but not everyone needs to join this niche. First, we will discuss who is well-suited to working with young kids, neuro-diverse children, and even infants, and who should likely refer out. Kate will also discuss which established programs exist, what each program entails, and how to decide whether you would like to join one of these programs. Strategies for success will also be included for how to keep kids' ever-wandering focus, how to manage kids in group classes (and how to make them an asset for socialization), summer camps, and how to help tired/overwhelmed parents get the training done. Finally, we will discuss the dreaded topic of rehoming - what triggers it, when is it truly necessary, and when can better management and canine enrichment strategies keep the dog in their loving home?
