EPARATION ANXIETY: Separation Anxiety is a debilitating condition for both dog and caregiver often confining both to the home for weeks, months, and years. In this talk we’ll explore the myths and dive into protocols which work. We will discuss the options and advantages to remote work and outline the comprehensive approach to helping clients to deal with this stressful situation. In addition, we’ll address the isolation and talk about the client support and empathetic approach which is vital to establishing a contiguous working relationship for clients dealing daily with the issues associated with a dog who suffers when alone. NON-AUDITORY COMMUNICATION: The primary mode of communication for dogs is body language. This talk will focus on my work with deaf dogs and how improving your non-auditory methods can make you a more effective trainer. Recognizing that dogs rely heavily on visual communication and thinking outside of the box to communicate with deaf dogs can enhance our skills with hearing dogs, too. Recognizing that dogs rely heavily on body language communication and that addressing tactile issues and creating a positive CER are helpful for all dogs. We’ll look at the types of deafness and discuss how working with non-auditory cues can also prepare dogs for possible hearing loss, add to our repertoire as trainers, and help in sharpening our visual timing and skill set. GROOMING: Low Stress Grooming: Tips, Trade secrets, Techniques, and Training! Learn how to set you, the dog, and the family up to succeed. Build a relationship based on trust which will last for many grooming visits to come. Understand how to manage and communicate to more effectively get the behaviors that you need in order to groom faster, easier, and safer. Over the course of the day we’ll cover the following topics in more depth. Introductions and Shaping Family Relationships: We’ll cover strategies to make your introductions count and communicate for collaboration with human clients. Stress: What To Do About It: Define stress and its counterpart, “relaxation.” We will talk about improving canine body language reading and interpretation skills and discuss how to react and interact in order to reduce anxiety and thus move more efficiently through the grooming process. Science, not Opinion: We’ll dig in a bit to the science behind behavior and explore how a better understanding can translate to more effective grooming strategies. Too, with behavioral science on your side you will also be able to better explain to your human clientele how and why you elect certain techniques. Happy Clients, Happy Business: We will discuss how creating a positive human/animal bond will improve your business and business goals. We’ll talk about translating satisfied, comfortable, and confident customers into dollars and a stellar reputation for groomers!
