Description

Come join Wolf Park as we welcome international author, lecturer, Canadian dog trainer, and famed TV host Jean Lessard MCP (CDT) to our yearly seminar series! In this 3-day seminar, Jean will expertly discuss the myths, legends and false beliefs surrounding wolves and dogs, and the differences between them. In his sharp and witty educational style, Jean will use his expertise to help answer questions such as: Are dogs two separate species? What is dominance? Is this concept necessary to train new behaviours? Do learning theories apply to wolves as they do to dogs? And as the name of the workshop suggests: Do we need to position ourselves as Alpha Males? In a time where access to resources abound, but can often get overwhelming, Lessard will present a set of tools for ethical trainers, and explain how to establish plans that train with efficiency and respect in regards to the learner. The use of markers and the art/skill of shaping new behaviors will be emphasized over the weekend, and this workshop is designed for those with some functional understanding of learning theory and applied behavioral management. Thru-fence as well as free contact training opportunities are available, with the schedule of materials being split in to sections of theory and applied knowledge. As a workshop, participants will get the opportunity to merge lecture material with hands-on experiences with Wolf Park ambassador wolves, foxes and coyotes. Jean Lessard, trainer, author and host of the TV show "On s’aime en chien" on French CBC, has published “Comme un chien” (Like a Dog) at Le Jour; was editor and collaborator on “Comportement chez le chien et le chat; observer, comprendre, modifier” (Dog and Cat Behaviour, Observing, Understanding and Modifying) at Éditions CCDMD; and co-author of “Mon Chien Chez le Psy” (My Dog at the Psychologist) at Édition Transcontinental. Every year he gives training seminars in Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain. Member of PPG and IAABC, he is also co-founder of the RQIEC, a Quebec established association of dog trainers. He is honorary president of «Paws of Hope», a fundraising event of the Canadian Cancer Society, and we are ELATED to have him return to Wolf Park!
