Description

WHAT IS IT: This is a 10 week course that will provide its participants with a fundamental overview of animal behavior. Students will learn about the foundational academic theories of conditioning and their applications to the real world. The course will cover classical conditioning, instrumental conditioning, motivation, punishment and aversives, canine specific behaviors including body language and aggression, and common training techniques. This course has previously been taught at Durham College, and is now being made available to the public. While the principals of animal behavior will be examined, the curriculum will feature a strong canine emphasis in all areas as the topics are explored. The course is designed to provide a fun and engaging introductory overview of these topics for enrolees, while maintaining a strong academic and research based foundation. This is an academically designed course, presented in a college lecture format using a combination of Power Point assisted lecture and hands on in-class exercises. While the course is open to all who are interested, it is designed to best suit adult or college aged students. (As the presenter, I added a requirement that for students seeking to receive CEU credits, they must maintain an attendance of 90% and a Grade of 75% or above. Your organization may choose to drop these requirements, I only included them to ensure quality of work and education on the part of the participants)
