Description

Workshop features speaker Dana Zinn, CNWI founding faculty with NACSW providing training presentation to dog owners (handlers) and dog trainers (NACSW/ CPDT/ ABCDT) for all skill levels utilizing working dogs to demonstrate and discuss the skills needed, training exercises available and how to build consistency in K9 Nose Work or any pet scent detection spor or activity focusing on dog and handler communication. While the full day presentation is geared to the handler or trainer involved in scent detection training for sport or activity, it is a focused discussion on how dogs communicate through their olfactory system, navigate their scent world specifically for what we want them to find and communicate their navigation to the human handler. Developing this discussion for the dog handler involved in the sport of canine nose work, additional information is provided for the scent detectioin trainer as well including sample exercises, trouble shooting behavior challenges (both dog and human behavior) and improving synchronization of the dog-handler team and improving the dog-human bond through the great sport of nose work. Specifically this workshop asks the handler the following to develop thought provoking discussion and self introspection and learning. "But in a trial… Have you ever said this to your instructor? Or wondered why things happen in a trial situation that never seem to happen in training? Well then this workshop is for you! Come take a journey with Dana into a world in which you can have more consistency with your training and trialing. A world in which you have more tools to understand what your dog is telling you in the search to help you make better decisions as a handler. Continue to keep those lines of communication open and remind the dogs that we are always listening! This workshop is for all levels of dogs but all dogs must be on odor. The workshop will include as much video review and discussion as time permits. Come prepared to take notes and expand your powers of observation. This workshop is as much for the auditor as it is for the working teams."
