Participants will be provided with interactive classroom instruction on normal canine behavior and development, prevention of behavior problems, behavior modification tools and techniques. This course fosters a collaborative relationship between various disciplines regarding dog behavior issues. Exercises involving participant participation will be incorporated into the learning process. Instructors will be providing live demonstrations during the seminar. Learning Goals: 1. Understand the importance and role of the Human Animal Bond (HAB) 2. Recognize normal/abnormal social, communicative, and developmental behavior 3. Understand the dog’s perspective 4. Be familiar with learning theory terminology and concepts and their practical application 5. Understand the value of clicker training in behavior modification 6. Be familiar with the importance and application of prevention services 7. Be able to identify the ABC’s of behaviors and use positive methods to manage, prevent, and address behavioral concerns. 8. Understand the TEAM paradigm; veterinary professionals and qualified animal trainers. 9. To be able to distinguish between normal undesirable behavior and behavior disorders. 10. To be familiar with appropriate application of behavior modification and training tools.
