Incorporating a new dog into the fold, whether it is a rescue dog or new pup is always challenging and can be heartbreaking when adding a new four legged family member doesn’t go well. Assisting families develop realistic expectations and correctly assessing the resident dog or dogs as well as the new dog is critical to a successful result. Reading dog body language is important when introducing resident and new dogs. Video dog assessments from introductions gone wrong to successful set ups will be discussed. Selecting a rescue dog versus a puppy will also be examined. We will also discuss the analysis of pack dynamics between dogs and how they change over time.
