This seminar will be an intense, focused, skill-building exercise interspersed with lectures. The workshop will center around the use of technology and behavioral science, to improve training skills and the ultimately, the teaching of training. The use of technology with stop-action, slow motion, fast motion, etc. can highlight the subtle changes in trainer behavior that result in either efficiency and success or errors and needless effort. Optimizing observations with instant visual feedback and a thorough look at those subtle behaviors can provide you with ways to improve your own training and teaching skills. Attendees will observe videos of previously-selected professional trainers performing various tasks and analyze and critique their effectiveness before and after video manipulation. Observers will be encouraged to think about what they have seen and try to come up with their own approach. The group will then move on to live-action demos which will be recorded and subjected to video replay analyses. On the second day, volunteers will be selected to demonstrate what they have learned and test out their training plans. Bob and Liz will guide the trainers and offer feedback to help them improve their skill. Lectures given throughout the weekend will provide a basic primer on training principles and nomenclature and will complement the days activities. This seminar is the fruition of a long-ago promise Bob made to Liz, to help her achieve her desire to look at the incremental behaviors that trainers need to focus on to improve their skills and to break them down for students to perform. This will be their last lecture together as Bob has been adamant that he needs to finally take a break! Join us!
