Description

The life of a dog features plenty of things that make noise and/or move. Are they distractions that require desensitization or are the valuable parts that we teach the dog to enjoy and actively make happen? Eva and Emelie take the latter approach and teach the dogs ”startbutton behaviors” - behaviors that the dogs can do to for example actively make something make noise or move. In this session they share their basic protocol for teaching dogs to like and create noise and movement. E&E originally developed this strategy for their agility training, but really, this kind of training is invaluable to all dogs, whether competing in any sports or just being great companions. Transforming potential aversives into something that the dog enjoys and actively strives for makes a huge difference in all settings. It makes the dog’s life a lot less stressful and opens up a well of great learning opportunities for dog and handler alike.
