Description

Join us, the Wolf Park staff, in welcoming renowned trainer and applied behavior analysis pioneer, Susan Friedman, PH.D for a 3-day seminar on Training and Technology—delving deep in to the science behind the praxis of ethical animal training! Over the course of three days, participants will gain opportunities to explore the underlying science of behavioral change, using lab-developed principles that focus on the ethical components of making training decisions, and emphasizing the importance of utilizing the least invasive methods to achieve target behaviors, and address the root of behavioral issues. Participants will gain a systematic understanding to the science behind the principles of learning, apply their newfound knowledge in breakout sessions with our animal ambassadors. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, participants will also share the unique experience of personalized coaching sessions from Dr. Friedman herself! During these sessions and demonstrations, Dr. Friedman will focus on the supradialogue between the animal and the trainer--giving participants valuable feedback on their technical skills, simultaneously addressing methods of accurate data collection and Functional Assessments of interactions. Sure to be an intellectual heavy-hitter, this seminar is open applicable to any and all folks looking to augment their skills and understanding of scientific training principles, regardless of their application or background. In Susan’s own words: “All of us are smarter than one of us. The laws of behavior apply to all animals, species bar none.” Susan Friedman, Ph.D. is a professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Utah State University, and good standing member of ABAI, ABMA, IAABC and IAATE. She has helped pioneer the cross-species application of behavior analysis to animals, using the same humane philosophy and scientifically sound teaching technology that has been so effective with human learners. She has worked as a mentor for many world class trainers, and has participated in several Wolf Park seminars in years past. We are elated to have her return, and share her expertise with you!
