Description

This talk will explore attachment relationships in dogs, with a focus on attachment relationships between dogs and their owners. An overview of previous research on attachment tests, attachment styles of dogs, and implications for welfare and cognition will be presented. The role of oxytocin (a naturally occurring hormone involved in social bond formation) in attachment relationships will also be discussed. Current research exploring differences in attachment styles in dogs with and without separation anxiety will be presented, including how these findings could be useful in applied contexts.
