We're so proud of our certified dog trainers and the work they do in their communities. Our professional dog trainers donate their time, expertise, and resources to dog owners, shelters, and rescue groups in their towns and cites.

Marilyn Wolf, owner of Korrect Kritters in New Port Richey, Florida, recently donated copies of one of her favorite books on dog body language to libraries in her area. This donation will help dog owners better understand what their dogs may be feeling based on their body language.

Other Certificants of the CCPDT donate their knowledge and expertise to help design service dog programs or to help dog rescue organizations provide the professional dog training needed to help dogs prepare for or adjust to new homes.

If you are a Certificant helping to make a difference in your community, write to us and let us know how you are volunteering! We would love to hear from you!

Qualified professional dog trainers can help dog owners in so many ways.

New puppy owners should always locate a professional dog trainer to learn how to prevent nuisance behaviors like chewing on shoes or jumping up on your guests. A skilled dog trainer can help you with housetraining your puppy and recognizing good play with other dogs. They'll help you with socialization and teaching of bite inhibition. In fact, you may want to find a dog trainer BEFORE you bring your puppy home so that you can find out what to do and what not to do from the very moment your puppy comes into your home!

A qualified professional dog trainer can help you with your adult dog too. If you need help with a fearful dog or a dog that needs basic manners, find a professional dog trainer who is certified by an independent organization to help you with either private training or group classes.?

One of the most important things to realize as a dog owner is that you do not need to live with a dog that pulls you down the street as if they were walking you or knocks you over everytime you come through the door or thinks that "come" means run the other way! Dog owners don't need to live with puddles of urine on the floor or constant barking for attention. Instead, find a dog trainer to help you get your household and your relationship with your four-legged friend under control!

There are many different options for dog training. Some professional dog trainers offer groups dog training classes that let you come weekly with your dog to practice with other dog owners. The benefit to this option is that you typically pay less per hour of training than you would pay if you hired a dog trainer for private training lessons. You also get to know other dog owners and can have fun going somewhere to work with your dog each week. Other benefits include the ability to practice around other dogs and owners and to practice outside of your own home, which is important when teaching your dog to respond in different environments. For some dogs; however, the distraction of working around other people and dogs may be too much to start with. And, in a group class, you have to split the attention of the trainer with other people.?

Many professional dog trainers also offer private training which is one-on-one training with just you and your dog and the trainer. This can help if your dog is distracted in a group class setting or has specific problem behaviors that are not addressed easily in a group class setting. You will generally pay more for private training lessons than you would for group classes. If you want this personalized attention but do not want the large pricetag, look for a dog trainer that offers semi-private lessons where you and a friend can sign up for training together. You'll still get more attention than you would if you took a group class, but you will pay a little bit less per hour by splitting the cost with a friend.?

Another option for training with a professional dog trainer is called board and train. With board and train, you bring your dog to the dog trainer to stay with the dog trainer overnight for an extended training time. Many dog trainers offer board and train in two to four week long options and teach your dog basic manners while the dog is in their care. The trainer then teaches you how to do all of the cues with your dog when your dog returns home. Although this option is the most expensive of all professional dog training options, it is a good option for owners who are either overwhelmed by their dog's behavior or who do not have the time to do the foundation training themselves.?
