This course covers standard equipment used in the dog training industry, when and how to use the equipment, and the science behind the equipment. There is a variety of equipment in the dog training world, and trainers need to be able to assess the equipment and understand how it works, as much of it is aversive, however, much of it is good management, which is equally important. Hand-in-hand with equipment is the Humane Hierarchy put forth by CCPDT. The Humane Hierarchy addresses the efficacy of the methods being used. All quadrants work, but some are more or less desirable than others. Good trainers understand the hierarchy and use it to inform their decisions. Additionally, discussion of classical conditioning techniques and where they might fall within the hierarchy are discussed.
