This non-working seminar will cover the following topics: • Understanding the canine olfactory system • Theory of scent discrimination • Factors influencing odor • Use of training aids • Utilizing your knowledge of odors in olfaction in K9 Nose Work® • Training scenarios and environmental issues • Problem solving - Identifying handler error problems in scent dog handling, e. g.: o Cueing the dog o Poor detailing skills o Unable to read the dog o Little or no search pattern o Belief that the dog should do all the work o Poor leash handling skills o Lack of knowledge of odor movement o Handler doesn’t hold dog accountable o Preconceived idea that odor is present or not present Fred is an internationally recognized K9 trainer in the field of canine detection. Fred has trained detection canines for over 30 years, in the areas of insect, natural gas, accelerants and narcotics detection.
