Description

In K9 Nose Work®, we build a dog's confidence through developing a solid foundation and continually revisiting that foundation while slowly moving through appropriately broadening, yet successful experiences. As a handler, your confidence is built through understanding the training process, learning to read your dog, understanding what you are seeing, in both your dog and in the environment, and learning how to navigate search areas for the greatest chance of success. Leah will guide handlers through understanding the search environment as it relates to odor, developing a plan for your search, and guide teams through training scenarios designed to address challenges identified by working participants via a pre-workshop questionnaire. Leah will outline why it is critical to have assistance from your Instructor in order to build independence and confidence in your dog and will guide you and your dog through some confidence building scenarios derived from the information you provide in the pre-workshop questionnaire. This workshop is for dog/handler teams that have been working on odor for at least 6 months. Working teams can attend one or both days. The plan is to work 2 elements Saturday and 2 elements on Sunday to cover all four if possible. Auditors at any level are welcome.
