K9NW: Handle It! An official NACSW educational offering This is a non-working seminar for the human part of the team. Handling a dog in K9 Nose Work® is an art form, developed and honed over time through observation and practice. Body language, leash management, patterns, expectations, foundation, and environment are some of the factors that affect your handling choices and handling success. Nothing replaces experience to help you internalize and finesse the necessary skills for good handling, but a starting place is understanding and observation of the end goal. Amy Herot, NACSW™ co-founder, and professional detection trainer/handler will guide you through the myriad of handling factors and examine the pros and cons in various scenarios, and at different stages of training. Review and discussion of video, along with demonstrations will help the handler develop additional tools for their training program, with an emphasis on understanding handling as applicable and appropriate for your dog. This non-working seminar is open to K9 Nose Work® enthusiasts. It is recommended that you have passed an ORT and are training to trial, but not required.
