Description

Cook, P.F., Prichard, A., Spivak, M. & Berns, G.S. 2016. Awake canine fMRI predicts dogs’ preference for praise vs food. Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, In Press. doi: 10.1093/scan/nsw102 First published online: August 12, 2016 This recent study that related brain activity in dogs to preferences for food or praise has generated a lot of talk. For example, one news report of the study says “We always knew it! Scientists at Emory University in Atlanta GA recently proved that most dogs prefer their owners over food.” Another says “A new study shows that more dogs prefer praise from their owners over food when being rewarded for good behavior.” But what were the results of the study and what did the authors actually conclude? We’ll review this study by analyzing it in a live webinar. You’ll hear us talking about the study and showing some graphics as well as taking your questions and comments about the research.
