Description

Understanding & Using Your Business Financials This is the financials module of Raising Canine’s Business Concepts course, which consists of: • FREE Business Course Pre-Requisite • Time Management • Understanding & Using Your Business Financials • Systems for Making Your Business Efficient & Consistent • Understanding Your Target Market & How to Market Your Business Each module is held separately and can be taken as a stand-alone course. However, if you do not feel you have a good understanding of any of these topics, you will get the most benefit from taking the entire course. The first module is the Business Course Pre-Requisite, which is on-demand and free. Before attending this course, you should listen to the Free Business Pre-Requisite module, which discusses concepts that should be understood prior to moving on with your business plan. Except for the Business Course Pre-Requisite and Time Management modules, these courses will not be recorded or available on-demand. However, they are held yearly, so you will have an opportunity to make up any modules you missed. We all know about profit and loss statements and balance sheets. Assuming we’re even running these reports monthly, we all look at the reports. We rejoice when our bottom line goes up and mourn when it goes down. Unfortunately, that’s as far as most of us go. But if we truly understand our financial reports, we can use that information to make strategic decisions which will take us far beyond our competition. As you will learn in the Business Course Pre-Requisite, most of us are technicians – we have skills and a profession we enjoy, and we open a small business. As business owners, we need to be managers and entrepreneurs, as well as technicians. Additionally, many of us have convinced ourselves that we ‘have no head for numbers,’ or we do better, or at least very well, operating from our intuition. I would posit that attitude comes from a lack of understanding of the numbers – because I used to have that very same attitude. Until I learned how to read and use my financials. Now I enjoy looking at them every month and seeing how I’m coming closer to my goals. Or, that I’m not coming closer, and fixing that problem. This course will help us understand what to look for, how to budget, how to forecast, and how to plan. Work smarter, not harder!
