Description

Animal training is structured and systematic. This can be extremely helpful to new trainers. However once the basics are learned, deeper examination of the tools of training and how they are applied shows there are additional layers to explore. Instead of trainers always using a bridge, they may find bridges are best applied under certain circumstances. The timing of delivery of reinforcers, presenting cues, redirecting behavior or applying time-outs becomes infinitely more significant and precise. Tools that are sometimes labeled inappropriate (such as luring with food or targets) can be helpful under certain conditions when applied thoughtfully. Giving animals the freedom and choice to participate is taken exponentially higher than what is considered an accepted standard by most. Sensitivity to animal body language is practiced at a level that requires trainers to focus their senses and adjust their choices above and beyond traditional practices. These topics and more will be discussed in the Advanced Concepts in Animal Training Telecourse. Now that you have the basics down, learn how to fine tune your skills to bring out your (and your students') full potential.
