Description
This presentation will describe the types of animal assisted interventions and the skills needed for both handlers and dogs. We will discuss considerations for selecting, training, and evaluating dogs for volunteer visiting and for interventions led by healthcare professionals. The importance of relationship-based training and promoting dog welfare and wellbeing will be emphasized. Participants will be able to engage in demonstrations of therapeutic activities with a canine co-therapist to experience the human-animal bond in action.
