Please join us for a weekend of education with John McGuigan, The Glasgow Dog Trainer. Saturday, August 24, 2019: 9am to 5pm Sunday, August 25, 2019, 8am to 4pm (please note the time change) In this 2-day seminar, John will cover various aspects of dealing with dog aggression, self-control and human movement for dog training. The weekend will consist of lecture and hands on demonstration, using carefully pre-selected dogs. CEUs pending Day 1 - Exploring dog aggression and reactivity; a day of video and lecture presentation examining the causes of dog-dog and dog-human aggression and it's solutions. Dog aggression/reactivity is extremely stressful for both the dog and owner and practical, positive reinforcement based solutions can be difficult to find if you don't know where to look. Be exploring the concepts of behavior change, these behaviors can be resolved without the need to resort to a more aversive approach, regardless of the breed and history. Day 2 - Human movement and Self control (the dog, not the human!) How the human behaves at the other end of the leash has a direct impact on our dog's behavior and this part of the picture which is very often over looked. How we move, when we move, how we hold the leash, even how we breathe and where we are looking all affect the dog's behavior John has been fascinated with human movement for years, and the principles apply to any human movement from carrying shopping bags to ballroom dancing. An interactive afternoon of learning how to apply these concepts to our dogs. Bring your sneakers (no, you won't be running around, just moving)! Self control - self control and impulse control are labels which are very often used to explain/describe behaviours such as nuisance barking, jumping up, snatching food, tugging on the lead and excited behaviors around dogs and humans. But are these accurate? Could it be a problem with the learning the dog has undergone rather than the dog himself? Morning of Day 2 will focus on looking at these concepts from the viewpoint of behavior analysis and suggestions of how better to deal with them in a way that is fairer for the learner.
