Description

The course aims at forming dog trainers with a scientifically sound theoretical background, as well as a solid practical preparation. Lectures are held one week-end per month for approximately one and a half year; additional theoretical lectures are provided online. Although we do not embrace any particular 'school of thought' and we try to give voice to teachers and professionals coming from a variety of experiences, we do ask our teachers to agree on a positive-based training. We do not tolerate any form of coercion, or any for of training that implies physical or psychological suffering. The course is organized entirely by the Center for Canine Science, a spin-off of the University of Padua, Italy and the organizing committee is composed of Prof. Paolo Mongillo (DVM, PhD, Professor of Veterinary Physiology and Ethology), Dr. Serena Adamelli (DVM, PhD, Certified Veterinary Behaviourist) and Mr. Emmanuele Baro (MSc, professional dog trainer). Students are required to attend to at least 80% of lectures and successfully pass three exams (two held during the course and a final exam) including assessments of their theoretical knowledge and their practical skills. Students are provided with study material (slides used by the teachers, and suggested books or scientific bibliography). In addition, students have access to an online teaching platform, where they can obtain additional material, and interact with the teachers through a forum to clarify lecture topics. The teaching platform is also sued to assign homework and assess student's progress through the course. Finally, the teaching platform is used to ask students feedbacks about each teacher didactic action, and suggestion on how to improve the course. Lectures are held by a large teaching body, which includes several academic professors/researchers holding a degree in Veterinary Medicine or a masters' degree and Doctoral degrees, with a relevant history of publications in their respective fields. Others are non academic teachers, most often professionals of dog training. The list of teachers includes: Paolo Mongillo, DVM, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Padua Serena Adamelli, DVM, PhD, Board certified veterinary behaviourist Emmanuele Baro, MSc, Dog trainer Adam Miklosi, PhD, Professor, University of Budapest Jean-Marc Landry, PhD, Researcher at the Institut pour la Promotion et la Recherche sur les Animaux de protection Sarah Marshall-Pescini, MSc, PhD, Researcher at the Wolf Science Center & Messerli Research Institute, University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna Ilaria Boero, Dog trainer Marco Gabossi, Dog trainer Istruttore Cinofilo Barbara Moletta, Dog trainer Sara Tagliati, MSc, Dog trainer Claudia Fugazza, MSc, PhD, Dog trainer and researcher at the Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest Federica Venturini, Dog trainer Alice Dal Toso, Dog trainer Roberto Venturini, DVM, Veterinary surgeon Jette Nielsen, Dog trainer Marco Martini, MSc, Dog trainer David Appleby, MSc, Certified dog behaviorist Simona Normando, DVM, PhD, Researcher at the University of Padua Francesca Papi, MSc, Dog trainer Franco Favaro, MSc, Psychologist Silvestro Terzi, MSc, Dog trainer and certified dog judge Barbara Soprani, Dog trainer Rebecca Ricci, DVM, PhD, Researcher at the University of Padua I hope that this information is sufficient to grant the course a certification by the CCPDT; should you need more information about the course, I will be more than happy to provide it.
