Prepare to leave with a completely new understanding of shaping! Join Dr. Jesús Rosales-Ruiz and Mary Hunter for two intensive days of lectures and hands-on exercises using the shaping game PORTL (Portable Operant Research and Teaching Lab). PORTL is a tabletop shaping game that will teach you more about behavior and shaping. Through playing the game, you will get to see the principles of behavior in action and practice applying those principles to change behavior. During the workshop, you'll learn about behavior principles and techniques that will help you create optimal learning situations when working with both animals and people. Topics will include the principles and techniques of shaping behavior, how to use resurgence during shaping, the constructional approach, errorless learning, and more. The workshop will consist of hands-on exercises using PORTL, as well as lectures. There will also be plenty of time for discussion. This workshop will be limited to a small group to allow ample time for discussion and questions and so that participants can receive individual coaching during the shaping exercises.
