Description

Dogs’ superior olfactory capabilities are well known and deployed worldwide for the detection of a variety of chemicals. The science of canine olfaction, however, has not kept paced with the applications of detection dogs. In this seminar by Nathaniel Hall, PhD, you will be taken on a whirlwind tour of the scientific literature on canine olfaction. Nathan will briefly highlight which hypotheses have empirical support and which do not. For example, what does the scientific literature say about which breed is best, or how sensitive the dog’s nose is compared to humans? Nathan will also discuss some of his ongoing research and highlight what remains to be studied. The first online seminar will be held on February 17th, 2016. A question and answer session will follow, moderated by Monique Udell, PhD.
