Description

Join us, the Wolf Park Staff, with World-renowned trainer Chirag Patel of Domesticated Manners UK for three days of theory, discussion, and hands-on interactive demonstrations that will challenge and expand your animal training knowledge and experience. Utilizing Positive Reinforcement methodology, the theme for this workshop will be to re-evaluate the levels of active participation we allow our animals to experience in a particular training session, and how that effects the strength—or latency-- of behavior. Empowering our animal learners, by placing an emphasis on choice and active participation in the development of new behaviors, existing husbandry practices, or behavior modification, opens new doors of communication and is sure to radically change the way we view our relationship with the animals in our lives. And, it’s not just for dogs! With experience ranging from Giraffes to Wolves, and everything in between, he knowledge and hands-on skills provided by Chirag will allow participants to expand their training repertoire across multiple species. Participants will get opportunities to observe, and interact in both protected, and free contact settings with our ambassador animals, collaborating with Chirag and the Wolf Park staff to manage Wolf, Fox, and Coyote behavior, as well as questioning commonly accepted training ideas. Starting with reviewing the fundamentals, Chirag Patel will provide his invaluable insight and unique perspectives to reform the basis of what it means to truly train together—extending his theories and application into dealing with difficult animals, and problematic behaviors by the end of the 3-day workshop. All discussion and activities will center on the perspective of the animal—the Learner—and how we can maximize learner participation and excitement in future training endeavors. This workshop is open to all who work in the animal field: come keepers, trainers, kennel workers, groomers, veterinarians and animal enthusiasts alike! There is much to learn, and something for everyone!
