Description

Understanding dogs and how they communicate with us, and to each other, is always a fascinating topic. Particularly for trainers, shelter workers, volunteers and vet staff, we engage so closely with dogs that understanding the nuances of their communication is essential for discerning their needs as well as handling them safely. It’s easy to assume we know when a dog is acting friendly or aggressive. However, often times dogs surprise us - there are subtle signals that seem hidden and are very easy to miss. Missing these valuable signals can lead to complications when handling dogs in vet clinics and shelters. In this 3-hour workshop, we will analyze video clips of shelter dogs collected over the course of 5 years to study dog body language in a detailed manner. You will come away with a more thorough understanding of dog body language as well as an improved ability to identify those subtle nuances that are critical pieces to understanding who dogs are.
