Description

All mammals have the physiology and neurobiology necessary to be psychologically traumatized by an event that overwhelms their ability to cope. In addition, the behavior of these animals often mirrors that of people who have experienced severe and life-changing traumas. This session will discuss both how to diagnose and how to treat animals that have been psychologically traumatized. We’ll discuss how the experiences of animals and people might be similar, how they might be different, and current best practices in helping traumatized individuals of any species to recover.
